A Story To Think About Work Place Health And Safety

Mr.   Yamo Wagai is from Markham in the Morobe Province (PNG). He is married and has 2 children; all now are big and will have their own families soon. He has been with Kimbe Bay Hotel for the last 10 years, He worked for Kimbe Bay Hotel as a cleaner and potter since the year 2000. He had always worked very hard. In January of 2010, while pushing the wheel barrow full of sand for cement mixing for a constructing of a new concrete walk path way, he fell with the wheel barrow and twisted his ankle on a very silvery foot path and ended up in the hospital. He was instructed by the doctor that because his injury is very sensitive that he can walk with a lot of pain, he has to go back to work any time when he feels better. He stayed away from work for 2 full months, and bought one pair of safety boot.

After the report of the incident scène was given to the hotel human resources manager by the duty manager which was I, stating the surface was wet and silvery that Mr. Yamo Wagai had fallen with his wheel barrow and twisted his ankle Mr.   Yamo Wagai should be allowed to the hospital after seeing that the injury seems to be serious, he was allowed to go to the hospital and get treatment with 3 days full pay was ordered by the hotel human resources manager.
Instead of resuming work after 3 days, Mr. Wagai returns to work after three and half weeks, the human resources manager of Kimbe bay hotel, instructed that he be suspended for a further 2 weeks for not turning up for work quickly. The H/R Manager said the injury did not warrant Mr. Wagai to stay away from work for 3 and half weeks. Then he orders....
